The Dead Sea
at earth’s lowest point
the dead sea calls me
blessed minerals
my sanctuary
oh, sacred water of both my homes,
swallow me!
the soft humming takes me in
but the deeper I dive
the stronger it spits
out to the surface I float
salty corpses of the sinners—
my comrades, pushing my head up
making way for the holy air
to sting my lungs familiarly
I lie on top, a defeated soldier
white foam outlines my body
highlighting it
for the God above to see
gaze down at me!
the cold wind, the blue waters
choir of serenity
soothing me into numbness
swaying my bed of waves
sending my body back,
back,
back to the shore
‘’how do you unsee death—
once you’ve looked it in the eyes?’’
