Morning Walk
this morning when I woke up
I found shame lying on my shoulders
wrapped around my neck
something I was dreading,
expecting, after last night’s wreck
so, after my first class
I went on a walk
looking for a dead cat
a buried her
I placed flowers on her grave
and I gave a eulogy about who I thought she was
I gave her kittens my breakfast for today
I tore off my favorite bracelet for them to play
then I prayed and prayed and prayed
until it was time for my next class
and I went back
giving guilt a piggyback ride
