Hall of Egress
a blindfold wrapped around my eyes and ears
muted sound of my own distorted voice
as I mumble calming instructions
guiding myself to the puzzle’s end
rising up to the surface,
no one ever believes what’s underground
a maze I can only see with my eyes shut
where all I perceive comes with doubt
reality blurs with what I imagine to be real
each wrong step takes me back to the start
“egress” engraved on a wall I phase through
trusting my blindness to quantum tunnel me
into a path of traps I have memorised
days spent in this cycle of isolation
far from the ones I call home
far from the body they call mine
has it been weeks already?
outsiders question my sanity
I do the same in turn
“silly you, just open your eyes”
I touch my lover's face
trace their features to refresh my memory
it's been months since my eyes have been opened
how I'd give all my senses away
just to see that grin again
but pulled against the grain
I'll have to face this bizarre space
dragging the body until it wakes
this is my own battle to fight
